Why Estonia

Why international entrepreneurs choose Estonia

Estonia is one of the most digitally advanced business environments in the world. Here's what makes it an exceptional base for international companies.

The Advantages

A business environment built for the digital age

100% Digital Company Management

Register, manage, and operate your company entirely online. Sign documents digitally, file taxes electronically, and handle all administration from anywhere in the world. Estonia's e-Governance infrastructure is unmatched globally.

0% Corporate Tax on Retained Earnings

Estonia's unique tax system means your company pays no corporate income tax on profits that remain in the business. Tax is only applied when profits are distributed as dividends — currently at 22%. Ideal for companies reinvesting in growth.

EU Jurisdiction

An Estonian company gives you full access to the European Union single market — over 450 million consumers. Trade freely across the EU, access European banking and payment infrastructure, and build credibility with European partners and clients.

E-Residency Programme

Estonia's e-Residency programme allows entrepreneurs from anywhere in the world to establish and manage an Estonian company remotely. Over 126,000 people from 170+ countries have become e-Residents since the programme launched in 2014.

Fast & Low-Cost Setup

Company registration takes as little as one business day. The state fee is just €265. Minimum share capital is €0.01 per shareholder. Combined with competitive service provider costs, Estonia offers one of the most accessible entry points to the EU market.

Transparent & Business-Friendly

Estonia has ranked as the most competitive tax system in the OECD for over a decade. Low bureaucracy, clear regulations, and a government that actively supports entrepreneurship make it one of the easiest places in Europe to do business.

E-Residency

What is e-Residency?

E-Residency is a government-issued digital identity that gives non-Estonians secure access to Estonia's e-services. It allows you to establish and run an Estonian company entirely online, from anywhere in the world.

What e-Residency gives you:
  • A digital ID card for secure authentication and document signing
  • The ability to register and manage an Estonian company remotely
  • Access to EU banking and payment services
  • Digital signing of contracts, tax filings, and official documents
What e-Residency is not:
  • It is not citizenship or physical residency
  • It does not grant the right to travel to or live in Estonia or the EU
  • It does not provide tax residency in Estonia
  • It does not exempt you from tax obligations in your country of residence

The application costs €150 and the digital ID card is typically ready for pickup within 3–8 weeks at an Estonian embassy or designated collection point.

Good to Know

What they don't tell you about running an Estonian company

Estonia's business environment is excellent — but it's not without challenges. Understanding these upfront helps you make better decisions.

Banking can be difficult

Traditional Estonian banks such as LHV and Swedbank require strong local connections and often an in-person visit. Most e-Residents use fintech providers like Wise or Revolut, which work well for many business types but have limitations for others.

You still need local coordination

Even though everything is digital, someone needs to coordinate with accountants, handle authority requests, manage compliance deadlines, and review Estonian-language correspondence. This is where most founders struggle after company formation.

International tax complexity

Having an Estonian company does not mean you only pay Estonian tax. If you live and work in another country, that country's tax rules still apply to you personally. The interaction between Estonian and foreign tax obligations requires careful planning.

Compliance is ongoing

Every Estonian company must file an annual report, even with zero activity. VAT-registered companies have monthly filing obligations. Missing deadlines can result in penalties or even forced liquidation of your company.

These are exactly the challenges Manarah Advisory helps you navigate. We handle the operational complexity so you can focus on your business.
